System working:

Instead of Smart card used for energy purchase in the above system, a simple keyboard to enter a unique, multi-digit code containing information on units of electricity purchased is used in this system. Consumer pays for the number of units required by him at the electricity office and the PC there generates a 13 digit code embedded with the consumer number, number of units purchased etc in a unique manner. A print-out of this number is given to the consumer who then enters it in his meter using the built-in keyboard. The units charged are shown in the display confirming proper entry of number. As in the Smart card meter, countdown of units as per energy usage, cut-off etc is now effected. There is also provision to avail grace period. For recharging, before going to electricity office, the customer has to note down a very short feedback code(Patent pending) and give it to the office for them to decode and take out the details like units charged so far, tampering done if any, total energy consumed till now etc. The cycle will continue.

The application software in both the systems is rich in capabilities like accounting of all transactions, creating database for MIS purposes, detecting tamper/fraud/malpractices done by any consumer etc.
