     Computerised Energy Monitoring System

Preamble:

Energy Monitoring System (EMS) is conceptualized with a view to provide timely management information on the usage of electrical energy for energy conservation activities, leading to reduced energy bills. The system consisting of a number of electronic Energy Monitoring Units (EMUs) networked through an RS485 compliant cabling network and also interfaced to a PC, will monitor the electrical parameters in each of the load centres, say, production floors, heavy duty motors etc and make them available for decision making, as and when the situation warrants immediate action.

Energy Monitoring System

EMS consists of the following sub-systems:

  • Energy Monitoring Units (E M U) with RS485 communication facility.
  • RS232C to RS485 conversion module.
  • PC with application software (GEMS)

System Highlights:

  • Ideal for monitoring key electrical parameters
  • Alphanumeric LCD in EMUs to show kW,kWh, time & Date.
  • Highly accurate digital clock which ensures timely action.
  • User-friendly application software (GEMS) in PC
  • Alarm provision at PC when any of the pre-designated values go out of range.
  • Logging of parameters at intervals, which are software selectable.
  • Optional logging of alarm conditions (Events recording)
  • Graphical presentation of load pattern and other parameters.
  • Bar chart representation of instantaneous values of Active Power.
  • Future proofing through up-gradation facility.

Applications:

  • To monitor and control energy usage/ wastage continuously
  • For early detection of impending failure of electrical systems to avert total failures
  • To compute Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) shift wise and initiate steps to contain it at desired levels

In nutshell, EMS is ideally suited to implement an efficient energy conservation system in an industry, reaping benefits like reduced energy bills, averting system breakdowns and providing products and services at most competitive rates, in this era of globalised economy.
